This is an academic year (9-month), Assistant Professor tenure-track position with teaching, research, outreach/engagement and service responsibilities and includes the expectation that the appointee will conduct mission-oriented research and outreach/engagement of relevance to the California Agricultural Experiment Station (https://caes.ucdavis.edu/research/aes).

The Department of Plant Pathology is seeking applicants that focus on plant virology. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent, productive and competitively funded research program in fundamental and/or applied plant virology.
We expect that this position will exploit new technologies to develop knowledge that will contribute environmentally sound disease control methods for plant virus diseases that threaten agriculture. The individual can also take advantage of the large-scale diagnostic capabilities at Foundation Plant Services for virus discovery and develop associations with the Seed Biotechnology Center. The appointee will have responsibility for the graduate class in Plant Virology (PLP 230). This position will also play a key role in the Global Disease Biology major (https://gdb.ucdavis.edu/) through instruction in current classes (e.g., Plantvirus-
vector interactions, PLP 123, or Introductory Plant Pathology, PLP 120) and/or by developing a disease-oriented virology general education course. Mentoring of graduate students, undergraduate student advising, curricular development, participation in and development of outreach programs, and performance of departmental and university service is expected. Participation in and development of outreach/engagement programs, and performance of departmental and university service is expected. This position is expected to collaborate with extension educators and partners in allied industries.

Ph.D. or equivalent degree in plant pathology, virology, microbiology, or related field (degree must be awarded by start of appointment). Post-doctoral experience is preferred. Evidence of research excellence is expected. The candidate should have the ability to develop and instruct undergraduate and graduate courses
and the ability to develop and conduct extramurally funded research in plant virology.
