UC Master Gardener Program

One of the least-known treasure troves of information in San Diego County is that over two hundred Master Gardeners provide home gardening and pest control information throughout the county, FREE to the public. Master Gardeners are volunteers trained and supervised by the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE).

Beekeeping & Honey Bee Education

Honey bees play a valuable role in our food system and environment by providing pollination services to plants and producing honey and related products. Beekeepers support pollination activity and honey production by managing domesticated European honey bee (EHB) hives also known as apiaries. The University of California Cooperative Extension San Diego is collaborating with key partner stakeholders to share information on bee health and beekeeping best management practices, including current research and regulations.

Healthy Garden-Healthy Home

Healthy Garden-Healthy Home is project supported by the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program and gives residents of San Diego County the opportunity to improve our water resources. As part of this effort, a team of 25 UCCE San Diego County Master Gardeners have undergone extensive in-depth IPM training in order to provide outreach to the San Diego Community.

Live Well In The Garden

Gardening has many health benefits from improving diet and increasing physical activity to reducing the effects of chronic health conditions such as arthritis, depression, cardiovascular disease, dementia, and diabetes. It's also a great way to connect with friends and family. It's "good for body and mind," according to the American Public Health Association, "and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Plus, you get to eat the delicious fruits, vegetables, and herbs that you grow. So, grab your tools and get in the dirt!"
