Meet the Beetles: How GSOB is affecting San Diego

UCCE's Jan Gonzales is working with the County of San Diego and numerous other agencies to provide outreach and education on the Goldspotted Oak Borer (GSOB). The beetle, which is shorter than the diameter of a penny, is causing tremendous destruction throughout California by starving Oaks of nutrients and water which ultimately leads to the trees demise. Dead Oaks become a fire hazard; they can collapse at any given moment; and their popularity as firewood can spread the pest if not burned where it was purchased, hence the efforts slogan: "Burn it where you buy it."
